and apply them to a "Self-Portrait" poem and an "Adjective
Noun" poem

Standards Based GoalStudents will be introduced to several different poetry formats and will apply what they learn to create their own poetry portfolio. |

Student Objectives 1. Students will create a "Self-Portrait" poem using at least five nouns and three adjectives. 2. Students will identify the difference between at least ten nouns and adjectives with 90% accuracy. 3. Students will demonstrate at least five adjectives and five nouns through an "Adjective Noun" poem. 4. Students will identify at least three of four figurative language concepts from today's lesson. |

Prerequisite Skills Students will need to know what noun and adjectives are. Room supervisor will need to run off "Self-Portrait" poem for class. There will need to be an adult room supervisor for students and someone who knows how to run the VTEL equipment. All involved need to understand VTEL classroom protocol. |

Welcome and review what we've learned so far.
"Like As", similes, synaesthesia, e-mailing. Introduce today's
lesson about "Self-Portrait"
poems and
"Adjective
Noun" poems. Distribute run-off copies of poem to small
group (2-3 students). Have four minutes to work. One and a half minutes to
decide whose poems will be shared and then share time. Quick review of noun and adjectives. Divide
site lab in to two groups and make a list of noun and adjectives on
a flip chart paper. Circle your nouns and underline your adjectives in
individual groups. Six minutes of work time and four minutes of share
time. Activity: Clapping Simile. Home site will start
with verse format on document camera and then start the activity. Next,
the connected site will do it. Each site should be able to respond two or
three times within this time frame. Go over "Adjective Noun" poem. Closure: Today, we learned about ourselves through creating a "Self-Portrait" poems, reviewed noun and adjectives, and an activity to recall noun and adjectives to implement into different poems.
