| Lesson Overview The students will be exposed to three different
      poem formats. They are Tanka, Clerihew, and Rondelet. This is lesson 7 of
      9 lessons which 8 are VTEL. | ||
| Standards Based Goal Students will be introduced to several
      different poetry formats and will apply what they learn to create their
      own poetry portfolio. | ||
| Student Objectives  1. Students will participate in small groups with the expectation of good sportsmanship. 2. Students will create two Tanka poems in their groups. 3. Students will demonstrate one Clerihew or Rondelet
      poem individually.

| Prerequisite Skills  Students will need to know how to submit a form
      on-line. There will need to be an adult room supervisor for students and
      someone who knows how to run the VTEL equipment. All involved need to
      understand VTEL classroom protocol. | ||

|  10 minutes                     |  Review types of poems we have learned, what
      parts of speech we have reviewed, and figurative language. If time allows,
      what they have enjoyed so far through this poetry unit. Introduce  "Tanka" format and a little
      history behind it  Divide individual sites into three groups and
      create two Tanka's. (Five minutes) Come together within your site (lab)
      and decide which to share with the other site.(3 minutes) and (2 minutes)
      to share between labs. Introduce "Clerihew" poems within same
      groups. Have four minutes to create at least one poem. One minute for a
      volunteer to share created poem. Two minutes to share with other lab.  Introduce  "Rondelet" poems
      within the same groups. Have four minutes to create at least one poem. One minute for

| Special Considerations

| Assessment  Students turn in group work to room
      monitor and submit the creation of either a "Clerihew" or  "Rondelet"
      format on-line. The group work success is monitored through room monitor
      and wide shot view of groups as they are working. Problems will be
      discussed at individual sites after VTEL session unless immediate
      attention is needed. | ||
